BOSE® was founded in 1964 by Dr. Amar Bose and a group of researchers who thrived on scientific discovery. They started with finding a better way to reproduce music and invented the 901® Direct/Reflecting® speaker. It was radically different from other speakers, and tremendously successful. More significantly, it set the tone for the company: to be better, we have to be different. It is a corporate philosophy that fits very well with Mazda’s approach to creating automobiles.

The discoveries continued after the 901 speaker, leading to other products that bring people benefits they value and appreciate. In 1982, BOSE® introduced custom-engineered, factory-installed audio systems, launching the premium automotive sound category.
