      There's no excess weight on this small car. It's lighter, smaller and smarter than others in the field but somehow manages to have plenty of space inside too.
      The use of lightweight ultra-high tensile steel was increased in the Mazda2 to support body shell rigidity. This alone meant a 20 per cent reduction in weight. The electrics, suspension and exhaust were also altered. Even the door speakers were changed to save weight.
