  • Awards

    • Mazda6 awarded 'Best Estate Car' in Fleet World Honours 2010

      Media Information, 20/05/2010

      • Fleet World Honours names Mazda6 2.2D Estate 'Best Estate Car 2010'
      • Mazda6 combines lifestyle and versatility with driver appeal
      • Upgraded Mazda6 in showrooms now boasting CO2 emissions below 150g/km

An award-winning combination of driver appeal, lifestyle, versatility and workhorse practicality has enabled the Mazda6 2.2 litre diesel Estate to be named 'Best Estate Car' in the 2010 Fleet World Honours. The awards were announced in the usual tradition, at the Royal Automobile Club, London this week (Tuesday, 18 May 2010).

The award completes a stunning quartet of titles for the Mazda6 Estate, which earlier this year won 'Best Estate Car' awards from both Fleet News and What Car? magazines and was named 'Towcar of the Year 2010' by The Caravan Club.

The Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers, service companies and individuals who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector.

Chairman of Judges, Steve Moody said: "Mazda continues to build on its solid reputation in the fleet market as a manufacturer of stylish and attractive cars. But it also features all the clever touches we have come to expect from Mazda, converting from a five-seater into a load-lugger in a matter of seconds."

The exact specification for the model that received this honours award was the Mazda6 2.2-litre Diesel Estate TS2 163ps manual and is priced at £21,595 on-the-road. Its strong residual values, keen pricing and competitive CO2 emissions saw the Mazda6 Estate beat off stiff competition including the Skoda Superb Estate, Toyota Avensis Estate and Honda Accord Estate to be named 'Best Estate Car' at the 2010 Fleet World Honours Car Awards.

Peter Allibon, Fleet and Remarketing Director for Mazda UK commented: "Mazda has yet again successfully combined a sporty appeal with a very practical model creating that competitive edge in the D-segment. This further recognition from the fleet industry represents the superb reputation that the Mazda6 range has developed over the past eight years since the original launch.

"We have firm hopes that this will continue as the Upgraded Mazda6 launched this spring represents great value for fleet operators with strong residual values, keen pricing, driver appeal and impressive CO2 emissions."

Commenting on the high standard of entries in this year's awards, Fleet World Managing Editor, Ross Durkin said: "The fleet industry is emerging from a period of economic uncertainty but, fortunately, is now robust again."

The upgraded 19-model Mazda6 range has recently entered showrooms with a choice of two body styles (hatchback and estate), six engines (three petrol and three diesel) and four equipment levels: S, TS, TS2, and Sport. The Mazda6 Estate 2.0 TS is priced from just £19,295 on-the-road. The estate diesel model emissions reduced to below 150g/km to help offset April 2010 5g/km increases in company car tax thresholds and rises in VED rates on cars with emissions of 151g/km and above.

    • Mazda6 Estate named 'Best Estate Car' at the 2010 Fleet News Awards

      Media Information, 18/03/2010

      • Fleet News awards the Mazda6 Estate the 'Best Estate Car' title
      • Mazda6 Estate outperforms rivals on strong residual values, pricing and CO2 emissions
      • Mazda6 triumphs again following the recent WhatCar? Awards with its third Fleet News Award

Strong residual values, keen pricing and competitive CO2 emissions see the Mazda6 Estate beat off stiff competition to be named 'Best Estate Car' at the 2010 Fleet News Awards - the industry 'Oscars'.

Recognition from the leading industry publication represents a superb swansong for the current Mazda6 range as the manufacturer gears up to launch a revised line-up over the coming weeks.

The award was presented at a glittering ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday (March 17, 2010) with the independent panel of fleet expert judges declaring: "The Mazda6 Estate combines excellent practicality with genuine driver appeal thanks to its huge load volume, engaging drive and powerful diesel engines.

"It represents great value for fleet operators with strong residual values, while its keen pricing and competitive CO2 emissions make it a tempting proposition when it comes to driver taxation.

"It is also very well equipped and comes with excellent safety features, including an audible rear blindspot warning on some models. Folding the rear seats result in a flat load area allowing the Mazda6 to swallow an enormous cargo. With sharp handling, first-rate build quality and good levels of comfort, it offers fleets a capable workhorse estate that is also desirable for drivers."

The judges concluded: "The Mazda6 combines flexibility with driver appeal and is a good deal for fleets from a financial point of view."

The triumph in this year's Fleet News Awards comes 12 months after the Mazda6 was named 'Best Large Family Car' at last year's 'Oscars' and the Mazda6 scooping the 'Family Car' and 'Estate Car' categories at the What Car? Car of the Year 2010 Awards.

The Mazda6 was the car that put the company on the fleet map when it first entered showrooms eight years ago.

Following the latest awards win for the current generation Mazda6, Fleet and Remarketing Director Peter Allibon said: "The Mazda6 has always been a compelling package for fleets, which has been recognised by this year's Fleet News Awards' judges.

"We are delighted that the current model's sector-leading credentials have secured another fleet award, but all eyes are now focused on the new model, which delivers an even more compelling proposition to the corporate sector thanks to lower CO2 emissions (down by up to 6.1 percent), improved fuel economy (up to 6.4 percent) and better performance from upgraded engines."

CO2 has been cut by up to 10g/km on a model-for-model basis across the Mazda6 range delivering benefit-in-kind tax savings for company car drivers and financial savings on a range of other vehicle-related taxes for companies - Class 1A National Insurance contributions paid on benefits-in-kind, Vehicle Excise Duty and capital allowances.

Estate diesel model emissions all reduce to below 150g/km to help offset April 2010 5g/km increases in company car tax thresholds and rises in VED rates on cars with emissions of 151g/km and above.

The revised 19-model Mazda6 range will enter showrooms shortly with a choice of two body styles (hatchback and estate), six engines (three petrol and three diesel) and four equipment levels - S, TS, TS2, and Sport. Priced from £16,990 on-the-road for the Mazda6 1.8 5dr S with the Estate range starting at £19,290 for the Mazda6 Estate 2.0 TS.

    • Mazda6 Gets Euro NCAP Seal of Approval

      Media Information, 19/02/2009

Fleets Volumes Set to Rise as Mazda6 Gets Euro NCAP Seal of Approval with Top Rating in Tough New Tests

      • Mazda6 achieves five-stars in revised Euro NCAP crash tests
      • Mazda6 achieves top rating for adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and the new area of assessment, safety assist
      • New testing requirement for 85% of volume sold to feature ESC fitted as standard - achieved by Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) fitted as standard on ALL Mazda6 models

It's official! The Mazda6 is one of Europe's safest cars after being among the first models to achieve the top five-star accolade in radically revised crash tests undertaken by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), the organisation that assesses the safety of new cars. Euro NCAP published the results for the first six models to undergo its revised safety tests today (Wednesday, February 18).

The upper medium sector model is Mazda's best-selling fleet and user-chooser model and gaining the top safety seal of approval from Euro NCAP in the tough revised tests further underline the car's corporate credentials.

The Mazda6 was one of four models to achieve the top overall five-star rating covering adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and the new area of assessment, safety assist. The tests also take into account rear impact (whiplash) tests and the availability of electronic stability control (ESC). The new testing scheme requires all safety equipment, including ESC, to be standard on 85 percent of volume sales and at least optionally available on every variant.

ESC which has been hailed by road safety campaigners as the most significant safety advance since the introduction of the seat belt, is standard on the new Mazda6 line-up as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Traction Control System (TCS).

Also accelerating Mazda to the safety forefront is the availability of its lane‑change 'Rear Vehicle Monitoring System' on 15 Mazda6 models, from TS2 upwards. The manufacturer is among the first carmakers to introduce the technology. Other safety features standard on the Mazda6 include traction control with Electronic Brake‑force Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist, front, side and full-length airbags.

The Mazda6 was the car that put the manufacturer on the UK corporate map six years ago and fleet and remarketing director Peter Allibon said: "Recent legislation such as last year's Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act and this year's Health and Safety (Offences) Act have focused the fleet decision-makers' minds on ensuring that vehicles driven on business are as safe as possible.

"Ensuring a car is 'fit for purpose' is a key requirement of a company's duty of care responsibility towards not only its at-work drivers, but other road users. More people are killed and seriously injured on Britain's roads while driving on behalf of their employer than in any other work-related activity, which is why the Government is campaigning for improved occupational road safety.

"Central to striving for reduced crash levels among at-work drivers is for managers in charge of public and private sector fleets to ensure they put only the very safest cars on choice lists. Safety-focused fleet decision-makers should therefore look for the new five-star Euro NCAP symbol which plays to the strength of the Mazda6. Fleet investment in safety starts with employees driving 'safe' cars - and that means the Mazda6."

The new Mazda6 line-up entered UK showrooms last month with prices starting at £14,891 on-the-road for the 1.8 5dr S. Fleets have a choice of three petrol engines, three diesel engines and five equipment levels.

Adding further appeal is the all‑new Mazda6 2.2-litre diesel, boasting CO2 emissions below 160g/km across the range, making this engine variant an all-round wise choice to fleet managers and user-choosers alike.

    • The Mazda6 has been crowned both 'Family Car' and 'Estate Car of the Year 2010'

The Mazda6 has been crowned both 'Family Car' and 'Estate Car of the Year 2010' at the prestigious annual What Car? awards. The Mazda6 impressed a panel of three judges with its performance, reliability and affordability after evaluating three cars in the
'Family Car' and 'Estate Car' category.

The new model's extra space and clever mechanisms 'dazzled' panel judge Barnaby Jones and beat off stiff competition for the 'Estate Car of the Year' title .

Steve Fowler, editor of What Car? commented: "The Mazda6 Hatchback and Estate outclassed contenders in the 'Family Car' and 'Estate Car' category with its overall package of practicality, value for money and good looks proving too much for the competition. The Mazda6 ticks all the right boxes when it comes to company car and family car drivers making an informed car purchase".

Peter Lawson, panel judge for the 'Family Car' category commended the Mazda6 for its practicality, comfort, class, reliability and its fun to drive appeal, claiming: "If you choose wisely, you can have all these talents wrapped up in one car: the Mazda6." He added: "What's more, this Mazda's resale values are stronger than a body-builder's biceps."
