2008 World Car of the Year

The new Mazda2’s outstanding all-round qualities have the ultimate stamp of international approval. As 2008 World Car of the Year (WCOTY), it shows that this lightweight car packs a heavyweight punch on the global stage.

All the elements that make up the Mazda2’s unique character combine to such effect that it can hold its own against a field of 38 other cars – and scoop the top accolade.

Great to look at, fun to drive and economical to run, the new Mazda2 also has uncompromising environmental standards, illustrated in its receiving the highest WCOTY environment score.

These attributes led a jury of 47 international automotive journalists to name the Mazda2 as their World Car of the Year, beating the short-listed Ford Mondeo and Mercedes C-Class. Previous winners of this coveted award include the Lexus LS460, BMW 3-Series and Audi A6.

The stylish Mazda2 was also one of the three finalists for 2008 World Design of the Year, alongside Volvo C30 and Audi R8.

Of course, Mazda is delighted with this prestigious award. But most of all, we hope that the new Mazda2 will become YOUR car of the year.
