Motability FAQs

The following are a list of frequently asked quesitons that help outline what the Motability scheme is about and Mazda's involvement.

If you have any other questions please contact your local Mazda motability dealer who will be more than happy to help.

Am I eligible for the Motability Scheme?

To be eligible for the Motability Car Scheme you must be in receipt of either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement. You will need at least 12 months remaining on your allowance at the time of application.

How much of my allowance do you take?

It depends on which car you choose. For some cars you exchange all of your weekly mobility allowance (currently £51.40 for the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or £57.40 for the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement) in exchange for your car, while for other cars we may take a lesser, fixed amount per week. For more expensive cars, where the value of your allowance doesn't cover the cost of the car over the 3 year lease, you will need to make an Advance Payment to make up the difference. This Advance Payment is paid to your dealer at the start of your lease.

How do I get a car?

If you are eligible for the Scheme, all you need to do is visit your local Motability dealers to try out some of the cars. There are over 150 Mazda Motability accredited dealer partners across the UK and each one has a dedicated Motability specialist ready to guide you through the process. Once you have chosen a car, your dealer will order it on-line at the dealership . There are no forms for you to fill in. All you need to do is provide your Certificate of Entitlement, a recent utility bill, and the driving licences of any drivers to be insured.

Do I get my Advance Payment back?

The Advance Payment is not a refundable deposit. It is a payment towards your car where the value of your allowance over the 3 years doesn't meet the cost of the vehicle.

Where can I get an application form from?

There is no application form and no application process. Once you have decided on the car that's right for you, the order is placed by your dealer via our dedicated online system.

Do I need to take anything to the Dealership with me?

For your initial visit to a Dealership you do not need to take anything with you, just make sure when you get there you ask to speak to the Motability Specialist (it might be worthwhile phoning in advance to book an appointment). When it comes to ordering your car, you will need to take: your Certificate of Entitlement, to prove you are in receipt of the allowance a recent utility bill, to prove your address, and the driving licences of anyone who will be on the insurance. Your chosen dealer will complete the online order for you.

How long will it take to get my new car?

The time taken to get a new car can vary; you should ask your dealer the expected delivery time when ordering your car, and remain in contact with them until the collection date. If you currently have a car on the Motability Scheme, you will not be able to collect your new car until on or after the end date of your current agreement.

If I'm over 65, can I still join the scheme?

If you are awarded either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement before the age of 65, then you are eligible for the Scheme after you turn 65. Please note that you must have at least 12 months of the allowance remaining.
