Green Driving Tips

1. Invest in a greener car

We improved CO2 emmissions on the upgraded Mazda2 by 5% making it a great choice for the environmentally conscious.

2. Check your tyres

Tyres at the right pressure and in good condition will help to cut costs and emissions by reducing fuel consumption. They'll also last longer. According to the Environmental Protection Agency correctly inflated tyres can increase fuel efficiency by 3%. Make sure you check your tyre pressures regularly!

3. Be consistent and Use appropriate gears

Harsh braking and acceleration uses up to 30% more fuel, while increasing wear and tear. Drive smoothly and consistently as much as possible to cut both costs and emissions. By thinking ahead and anticipating and judging necessary speeds, any need to brake harshly will be sufficiently reduced. Change into the highest appropriate gear smoothly and as early as possible to lower your engine revs and use less fuel.

4. Regular Servicing

An annual Mazda service ensures your engine operates with optimum efficiency, ensuring constant high performance and keeping fuel consumption low. It also increases your Mazda's resale value. Our Mazda dealer network is great at offering the service work required to keep you on the road and enjoying your car for years to come. Even our Dexelia oil is designed to improve your fuel consumption and lower your emissions.

5. Slim down

A lighter, more streamlined car uses less fuel and has lower emissions. Take non-essentials out of the boot and use the roof-rack or bicycle rack only when needed.

6. Plan your journey

Motorists waste on average 350,000 tonnes of fuel per year from taking the wrong turn (AA). To help you on your way, Mazda offer a wide range of solutions from fully integrated systems to portable navigation devices. Further information can be found in the Mazda Accessories brochure.

7. Switch off

Sitting idle in a traffic jam wastes fuel and emits unnecessary CO2 emmissions. Turn your engine off when possible in traffic to help reduce CO2 output.

8. Monitor your Air Conditioning

At lower speeds air conditioning increases fuel consumption. Try being a little more sparing with your air conditioning, only using when you have to. This will help maintain fuel efficiency.

9. Leave your car at home

According to the Department of Transport 61% of all car journeys in the UK are less than two miles in length. If your journey is less than 1 mile, why not walk or cycle? You'll do your health and the environment a power of good.

10. Join - or form - a carpool

If you can share a car on your daily commute or on the school run, you'll reduce emissions, reduce congestion and save on fuel costs - and you might even enjoy the company! It also helps your Mazda's resale value due to lower mileage.
