Advanced safety performance
The all-new Mazda CX-5 is designed to help drivers avoid accidents and, if one happens, reduce the severity as much as possible. The Mazda CX-5 comes equipped with our new Smart City Brake Support as standard, which helps minimise the chance of rear-end collisions, as well as state-of-the-art passive safety features.
These include a lightweight yet highly-rigid SKYACTIV-Body and various impact-absorbing body structure innovations that protect the interior space in case of collision, to an array of interior safety features such as 6 airbags and seatbelt pretensioners.
Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) Looking out for traffic ahead and helping you stop in time
Another debut – the first compact SUV to offer this feature as standard across the range. SCBS helps to avoid or minimise the effects of low-speed collisions. The laser-based system continually monitors the gap and closing speed to the vehicle in front and applies the brakes if a collision is likely. (Operates at speeds up to approximately 20mph).
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
LDWS uses a camera at the top of your windscreen to monitor road markings and warns you via your speakers depending which way you're about to veer from your lane.
The system operates when your speed exceeds 40mph, emitting a sound similar to that of rumble strips. It knows from your car’s behaviour when you’re intentionally leaving your lane, in which case it doesn’t sound the warning. LDWS is part of the optional safety pack, available on AWD Sport and Sport NAV models only.
In addition, the Safety Pack includes High Beam Control which automatically switches between high beam and low beam when there are oncoming cars approaching. And Rear Vehicle Monitoring system which provides assistance when changing lanes by warning you when a vehicle enters the blind spot detection zone. This activates a light in the door mirror on the relevent side of the car. If you indicate prior to turning, the warning light flashes and sounds an audible warning.
