Mazda Motors UK has teamed up with leading engineering support company Babcock International to deliver its technical training.

A first group of technicians completed their training at a new purpose-developed Technical Training Academy in Milton Keynes recently.

Mazda UK's training requirements went to tender last year, said Aftersales Director David Wilson-Green. "We were attracted to Babcock because they are the UK's largest training provider with strong credentials," he said.

"With Mazda's sixth generation cars arriving with the Mazda CX-5 in the spring we needed to find the best provider for the future," said Wilson-Green.

The new training programme will allow apprentices to learn alongside those seeking master technician status which is expected to bring major benefits to the apprentices, said Wilson-Green.

Every Mazda dealership needs to have at least one master technician.

The new Mazda Technical Training Academy provides both classroom and technical working areas as well as computer training and serves not only Mazda's UK dealer network but also the network in Ireland.

One of the customer advantages of Mazda's SKYACTIV technology which debuts on the Mazda CX-5 is that it doesn't require dealers to be completely retrained. "No new electrical engineering qualifications are required in addition to the usual specialist technical expertise," explained Wilson-Green.

"The Mazda Technical Training Academy means customers can relax, safe in the knowledge that their vehicle has been repaired and maintained first time by a fully trained Mazda technician, using Mazda genuine parts and repair methods to ensure their car always maintains peak efficiency, especially for today's environmental and cost conscious customer.

"The aim is to provide the best possible customer service with a 'fix right first time' mentality."

The Academy has four trainers and the capacity to take up to 10 people on each course.
Each technician is trained according to a curriculum which consists of three different levels: Technician, Senior and Master Technician.
