i-ELOOP is a regenerative braking system that recovers lost kinetic energy during deceleration and stores this as electricity in a quick charging capacitor. i-ELOOP is the perfect companion for i-stop, since there is no need to revert to battery power, even when Mazda’s idle-stop system has put the engine in standby (at traffic lights, for example). During stop-and-go city driving, charging often resumes before the capacitor is fully discharged. As a result, i-ELOOP can produce most if not all of a vehicle’s electricity needs, meaning the engine does not need to divert power to charge the battery, improving engine efficiency and fuel economy.
i-ELOOP is standard on Mazda3 165ps Sport Nav models only
